What does it mean to have the power and opportunity to participate in how my daily life is shaped where I live? Why is it important for me to have a say in how the public space in my neighbourhood is shaped? What differentiates a space from a place? And why, anyway, there are so many people out there taking brushes and paints and painting the streets and planting flowers? Is this how all our problems are going to be solved? Maybe not, but in our workshop we will discuss the power that brushes, paints and flower boxes can have in changing our mindset about how we view our environment, its people, and our role within a community and society, with improvements from today and a view to the future. We will learn through practical theory, examples from abroad and Greece and discuss how these practices can be transferred to our own neighbourhood.
The workshop will take place on Saturday 8 April, at 12:00-14:00 via Zoom, moderated by Vivian Doumpa, Urban Planner – Urban Geographer specializing in Placemaking, Coordinator of the Greek office of STIPO and Board Member of Placemaking Europe. It is the fifth in a series of workshops that will be held free of charge via the website https://makeuse.gr/, which aims to function as a virtual (until it becomes a real one) youth centre.
