12 Dec The Power of Words: A Lesson in Accountability from MAKE (N)USE
Before these workshops, I wrote without really thinking much about what each word means. I hadn’t considered that a text – even a simple post – can influence thoughts, shape opinions, and sometimes hurt.
At MAKE (N)USE, we didn’t just learn to write better. We learned to understand the responsibility our words carry. To recognize the fine line between truth and exaggeration, between information and manipulation. Not to be swayed by sensationalism but to stay committed to the essence, to respect our audience.
I remember the discussions about how news stories are shaped, the importance of accuracy, that crosschecking information is not a boring process but an act of responsibility. I remember the feeling of satisfaction when completing a piece, knowing it wasn’t just well-written, but right.
I leave these workshops with something valuable; the understanding that words have weight and significance. And a promise to myself that from here on out, every word I speak or write will serve a purpose.
